Perforated sheet metal

Enhance your project with the versatility and style of our perforated sheet metal. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, perforated sheet metal offers practical benefits such as improved ventilation, light diffusion, and sound absorption. Our extensive range features various materials like aluminium, stainless steel, and galvanised steel, each tailored to withstand different environments and applications. Whether you're crafting intricate facades, robust industrial machinery, or functional screens, our perforated sheets deliver exceptional performance. Customise hole patterns, sizes, and finishes to match your exact specifications. For instance, you can combine perforated sheet metal with our Expanded Metal Mesh for a dynamic and visually striking design. You can also consider pairing perforated sheet metal with our Woven Wire Mesh or Welded Wire Mesh for added strength and security in applications like fencing or machine guarding.

Frequently asked questions

What is perforated sheet metal?

Perforated sheet metal is flat sheet punched with a repeating pattern of holes — most commonly round holes in a 60° staggered layout. We supply it in stainless steel 304 and 316, aluminium, galvanised (Galvabond) and mild steel, with hole sizes from 3mm to 10mm. It’s used for facades, screens, ventilation, acoustic panels, filtration and machine guarding.

What does “open area” mean and why does it matter?

Open area is the percentage of the sheet taken up by holes rather than solid metal. Our perforated sheets range from around 23% to 58% open area. Higher open area allows more airflow, light and sound transmission but reduces strength; lower open area gives more rigidity and privacy. Choose based on whether ventilation, screening or structural strength matters most.

What is hole size and pitch?

Hole size is the diameter of each perforation, and pitch is the centre-to-centre distance between holes. For example, a 6mm hole at 9mm pitch means 6mm holes spaced 9mm apart. Together with the staggered pattern, these determine the open area, appearance and strength of the sheet.

What materials and thicknesses are available?

We stock perforated sheet in stainless steel 304 and 316, aluminium, Galvabond and mild steel, in thicknesses from around 0.8mm to 3mm. Standard sheets are 1220 x 2440mm. Stainless 316 suits coastal and corrosive environments, aluminium is lightweight for facades, and galvanised or mild steel is cost-effective for industrial use.

What is perforated sheet metal used for?

Common uses include architectural facades and cladding, privacy and sunscreens, balustrade infill, acoustic panels, ventilation grilles, machine guards, filtration and sieving, and vermin-proof screens. The right hole size, open area and material depend on the application — we can advise or supply custom specifications.

What’s the difference between perforated sheet metal and expanded metal mesh?

Perforated sheet is solid metal punched with holes, giving a clean, uniform finish ideal for architectural and decorative work. Expanded metal mesh is slit and stretched from sheet with no material loss, making it stronger and more economical for security screens, walkways and mesh guards. Choose perforated for appearance, expanded for strength and grip.
